About the event
SEYMOUR – It’s time to celebrate a historic milestone a few days early.
The Eighth of August, which marks Tennessee’s Emancipation Day from slavery, will be marked
in Seymour with a program on Tuesday, Aug. 4 this year. The celebration takes place at 7 p.m.
Aug. 4 at Williams Family Seymour Branch Library.
One highlight will be the stirring singing of the Chandler Family Choir lifting up the music that
has resounded with the story of freedom. On Aug. 8, 1863 Andrew Johnson, then the military
