Sevierville, Tennessee – The King Family Library will host a special Juneteenth program honoring the history of Juneteenth or Liberation Day.
The program, “Liberation Day: A History of Juneteenth,” will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 6 p.m. in the Burchfield Room, King Family Library, 408 High Street, Sevierville. Doors will open at 5:30.
Juneteenth commemorates the day that federal troops under Major General Gordon Granger ordered that all remaining enslaved people in Texas be freed, enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation. The holiday was first celebrated on the first anniversary of Liberation Day in 1866.
